BELONGING : A new pro-bono initiative focusing on the British Citizenship Law. This project uses the real experiences of young people that have faced citizenship issues, including those born in the UK, to raise awareness of the need for children’s citizenship to be applied for quickly.
Belonging hopes to raise awareness of the citizenship law rights of the children of Swiss and EEA national parents living in the UK.
What many often forget is that people born in the UK will not always automatically be British citizens. If your sibling is a British citizen, you might not necessarily be. In order to safeguard the future of children under their care, parents and guardians need to understand their options and rights to live in the UK, and how we can best protect them.
The initiative has developed several resources in order to help raise awareness :
In order to reach those who need the information most, Belonging is set to publish a comic that will provide engaging and vital knowledge for young people who are directly affected by the British citizenship law.
Alongside the comic, a leaflet aimed at parents, carers and legal guardians is available online. Information collected and presented by PRCBC gives legal insight into British citizenship law.
The final resource is a detailed article that provides an overview of the different immigration laws and the citizenship options for children, their parents, and family members who are EU nationals, living in the UK.
